Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you do repairs, or only maintenance?

Yes. If a repair is outside the scope of routine maintenance, we’ll explain the situation and next steps before any additional work is performed.

Do I need to be home for generator maintenance?

No. As long as the generator is accessible and we have clear access to the unit, you do not need to be home. Many customers prefer maintenance to be completed while they’re at work.

What’s included in annual generator maintenance?

Our standard annual maintenance includes:

  • Oil change
  • Oil filter replacement
  • Spark plug(s)
  • Air filter
  • Battery & charger check
  • Output voltage test
  • Overall system inspection

If we notice anything unusual during the service, we’ll let you know before any additional work is done.

How often should my generator be serviced?

Most residential standby generators should be serviced once per year, or after extended run time during a power outage. Annual maintenance helps ensure reliability, longevity, and proper operation when you need it most.

My generator won’t start — what should I do?

First, don’t panic. A no-start condition is often caused by something simple such as:

  • A weak or failed battery
  • A low oil condition
  • A tripped breaker or shutdown alarm

If your generator won’t start, contact us and we can help determine whether it’s a maintenance issue or something that requires further troubleshooting.

My power went out and my generator didn’t turn on — why?

There are several common reasons this can happen:

  • The generator is turned off or in the wrong mode
  • The battery is weak or failed
  • The generator detected a fault and shut itself down
  • The transfer switch did not engage

If your generator didn’t start during an outage, it’s important to have it checked before the next one. We can help diagnose the issue and recommend next steps.

Does maintenance include repairs?

No. Annual maintenance covers routine service items only. Repairs, troubleshooting, parts replacement, and adjustments are billed separately if needed. We always discuss options with you before performing additional work.

Do you work on all generator brands?

We service most residential standby generators. If you’re unsure whether your unit is supported, feel free to reach out with the make and model.

Is maintenance required to keep my generator reliable?

Yes. Standby generators sit idle most of the year, which makes regular maintenance especially important. Annual service helps prevent battery failure, oil-related shutdowns, and unexpected issues during outages.

What if my generator needs additional work during maintenance?

If we find an issue outside of routine maintenance, we’ll notify you and explain your options. No additional work is performed without your approval.
